Six Individuals Arrested In Pallisa And Mityana For Census Non-Compliance

In recent news, the townships of Mityana and Pallisa have witnessed the arrest of six individuals for their refusal to participate in the ongoing census.

According to the Mityana resident deputy district commissioner Ms Prosy Mwanjuzi, the culprits will be produced in courts to answer for their charges for refusing to be counted.

“ it took enumerators to their homes and they still refused to cooperate .This is open sabotage of a well intentioned government program,”Ms Mwanjizi said .

The government had previously declared that individuals who declined to be counted would be subject to a potential six-month imprisonment sentence.

The census, being a crucial tool for gathering accurate population data and facilitating informed decision-making, holds significant importance for our nation.

Importance of census

It enables the government to allocate resources effectively, plan for the future, and implement policies that address the needs of the people.

However, it is essential to note that some individuals have chosen to resist this civic duty, prompting law enforcement to take action.

In an effort to ensure compliance and maintain the integrity of the census process, authorities have apprehended six individuals in Mityana and Pallisa.

These arrests highlight the government’s commitment to upholding the census as a legal obligation and reinforcing the importance of active citizen participation. By enforcing penalties for non-compliance, the government seeks to emphasize the significance of accurate data collection and its impact on socio-economic development.

While it is unfortunate that these six individuals have found themselves facing legal consequences for their refusal to be counted, it serves as a reminder that participation in the census is not only a legal requirement but also a responsibility to contribute to the progress of our nation.

As the census continues, it is hoped that such incidents will be minimal, and citizens across the country will recognize the value of their participation.
