Meanwhile, police has closed all roads leading to parliament till the end of the swearing-in on Thursday. The Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police Commander, Norman Musinga, released a statement informing the public.
“Police will cut off Parliamentary Avenue at Kimathi Avenue, King George VI street, Siadi Barrie and UBC roundabout. Members of Parliament elect will access parliament via King George VI street. They will be a drop off at the main gate and motor vehicles proceed to the designated parking at National Theater.”
However, Police expect the MPs who are going to swear in to have only one vehicle. This is to regulate traffic and also stop congestion especially because we are in the Covid period. Police on the other hand has warned motorists to stay away from Parliamentary Avenue, Kimathi Avenue, Siadi Barre and Dewinton road. In the statement released, police says every car or motorcycle found within the mentioned areas risks withholding.
“Parking along the road or near parliament is prohibited. Police will tow any motor vehicle abandoned on the road to CPS Kampala parking yard at the owners’ cost and inconvenience.”
