Aceng Asks Private Hospitals To Apologize For Hiking Prices For Covid Patients

Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said on Thursday that private hospitals need to apologize to the entire public. This is because they have been hiking medical bills for Covid-19 patients that are in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to Minister Aceng, it is unacceptable that some hospitals are asking for Shs5 million to take care of a Covid patient in just one day.

‘’With Covid-19 we opened up to the private sector. They are charging up to Shs5 million a day. Some families have paid up to Shs200 million and they have still lost their loved ones. It is completely unacceptable,’’ Ms. Aceng said in an interview.

The interview happened a few hours after Ms. Aceng’s ministry said over 34 more Ugandans succumbed to Covid-19 on June 15.

The Ministry of Health also said 1,584 more people tested positive for the virus as the total number of confirmed cases rose to 67,215. There are currently 950 active cases admitted in different health centers across the country.

Out of the total population in Uganda of 41 million people, only 812,118 Ugandans have so far been vaccinated.

And it is only a little over 8,000 people that have received their second dose of the vaccine according to Ms. Ruth Aceng.
