She said this ahead of primary finals coming up on the 8th and 9th of November 2022.
“Once a child (candidate) is registered, results are obtained online, but we have taken it up and pledge to ensure that P.7 and S.6 candidates all sit their exams [even those who have not completed fees],” Joyce Moriku said.
Francis Mwijukye, Buhweju County MP, said the Ministry Of Education should really see to it that this happens.
He said in his constituency, a number of Senior four students missed their Uganda Certificate Education papers due to fees problems.
“My prayer is that the Ministry of Education directs that all candidates be permitted to sit exams. It is unfair that one will study all these years and be denied exams because of fees arrears.”
The Speaker added her voice to this. She said one cannot spend seven years (primary) or four years (lower secondary) studying and then at exam time they are barred from sitting exams. According to her, it is unfair.
“Government is supposed to give us free education,” the speaker said.
This is not the first time this is being said. Students have continually missed papers due to tuition issues.
