Arcade Traders Who Came To Forcefully Reopen Shops Blocked By Police

News that reached our desk this morning indicates that Arcade traders under KACITA who came forcefully to reopen their shops this morning following the orders of their leaders have been blocked by police.

Police has intervened and sabotaged their plans this morning. All this came after video clip of Minister Dr Ruth Aceng circulated on social media while holding public gatherings in Lira talking to her people without a mask.

Therefore, after watching Dr Ruth Aceng’s video which they said she didn’t comply with coronavirus guidelines such as wearing a mask and social distancing, Arcade traders decided to resume their businesses after government failed to respond to their cry.

Some of the leaders in Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) said that they have done everything to ensure that all the arcades in Kampala comply with the covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) before reopening.

Many traders, saloon owners boda bodas etc say they are unable to feed their families and they can’t afford to pay rent because the government hasn’t given them a green-light to resume work.

Yesterday morning, Stella Nyanzi together with Makerere University students staged an illegal demonstration mobilizing arcade traders to protest the continued lockdown on their businesses.
