“A Presidential Protection Guard officer attached to Deputy Speaker Anita Among kicks Vision Group journalist Lawrence Kitatta as he covers a demonstration between the ongoing fracas between Among & Zaake. I wonder how Among feels about this incident,” Canary said.
Reacting to this, Asan Kasingye said if one looked at the photos critically, the journalist was touching the rifle of the soldiers. He says the first thing they train a soldier to do is to defend his weapons.
“Look at the hand of the journalist. Canary, in your work, have you ever tried to touch or grab the rifle of a soldier or police officer? Please, know that they are trained to protect their weapons. It’s rule number one. Freedom of journalists does not include grabbing weapons.”
However, the journalist advised Kasingye to rather make an investigation than drawing to conclusions using a mere photo.
“Doesn’t make sense to me, sir. I think what you should be calling for is an investigation, not summarizing events on a mere photo. This could even be a camera angle. But I am also aware that I could be here asking for too much. Is PPG under Police or SFC?” Canary said.
Meanwhile, this photo failed to raise any alarm among the people. They say journalists are two-faced so they should fight their own battles with security.
