Swangz Avenue singer Priscilla Zawedde alias Azawi was left in awe of the travel system in the European Union nations. It should be noted that the singer is on a European tour and has been performing in different countries such as the UK and Germany.
One thing that impressed the Masavu singer is the absence of border restrictions in these countries under the EU. She pointed out that one can go on a smooth border drive without any restrictions.
The singer then highlighted how it’s hectic back in Africa. She then said that even in Tanzania which borders Uganda, one can’t be permitted into the country without the necessary documents. According to Azawi, not even a national ID can be accepted.
“It’s quite brilliant how the EU made movement in their region smooth. You can go on a road trip and enter from one country to another without any border restrictions and bureaucracies. BUT come to AFRICA, even with EAC, Tanzania will reject your National ID and interrogate you like a thief,” said the singer.
African countries have for long talked about patriotism and fronting African interests. However, this has never been implemented. In fact, foreigners from other continents travel across the continent more freely than the natives.
A few weeks ago, the continent’s richest man, Aliko Dangote shocked many when he revealed that he needs about 35 visas to travel across the continent. Despite his status, he’s required to possess a visa before entering many African countries.
In the East African Community, there are also still stringent measures for travelers from the member countries.
