Obama also said that what the current Republican Party has in Donald Trump is a disgrace.
He gave an example of McCain who ran against him in 2008 when the former President was up for nomination. As much as the Republican candidate in 2008 was conservative, Obama said he was mild and not extreme with his views.
According to the former Senator of Illinois, he and his opponent did not always agree on various issues. However, the Republican understood that some values of American society are much bigger than political parties.
McCain was well aware that putting political parties before America would hurt the country’s democracy. Therefore, he had character and this is something Obama doesn’t see in Trump. He always pushes narratives that will hurt the country as long as they benefit him.
Read his statement below;
“John McCain and I didn’t always agree, but he understood that some values transcended parties. He knew that if we got in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, our democracy will not work. John McCain had character. That’s what I think about so much these days because it’s so different from what we see out of the Republican nominee.”
It should be noted that as much as Obama is calling Trump a disgrace, his party, the Democrats are not at all innocent. The attacks that they have waged against Trump from the time he entered the presidential race has been nothing short of a disgrace.
This has even led to the attempted assassination of Trump twice. It is, therefore, quite funny that Obama can only call out Trump for playing politics at the expense of the country yet his mates are way vicious in the attacks.
Trump’s evil might just be the kind that matches the Democrats’ evil. And with that, Obama is now crying wolve.
