However, Robert Lewandowski thought he had given Barca the lead in the 13th minute but VAR chopped off the goal for offside.
The semi-automated offside technology used in La Liga showed that the Polish striker’s boot was ahead of Sociedad defender, Nayef Aguerd. However, this seemed so controversial and has raised a lot of debate and fury in Spanish media because Lewy seemed to be well on the side.
Reacting to the game, Flick said that the goal should have stood. However, he took responsibility and said that even refs make mistakes since they are human. Therefore, they can’t bundle all the blame onto the ref.
He stated;
“I saw the pictures and the decision was wrong, it’s a valid goal. It’s very clear, the goal had to be valid. But we have to accept it, we shouldn’t blame the referee because we are all human and make mistakes… today was a big mistake,”
Barcelona midfielder Casado said “La Liga must verify the goal scored by Lewandowski. It will be very irresponsible if a legal goal is disallowed like that.”
Meanwhile, the Catalan giants were without their teenage star player, Lamine Yamal. Yamal suffered an ankle injury against Crvena Zvezda in the UCL in midweek.
The club and the coach said that he had received treatment but was still feeling pain. They advised him not to go for the international break to feature for Spain. The German added that he’s not sure if the 17-year-old will be available once the international break ends.
