Barmaid Dies Mysteriously, Police Investigating

Authorities in Bundibugyo are investigating the mysterious death of an 18-year-old barmaid. Her body was discovered on Thursday morning next to a local bar in Kikoni Trading Center in Ngamba Sub-County, Bundibugyo district.

Later on after the discovery, the police identified the victim as a one Moreen Masika, a resident of Ntoroko District. Masika had been in Bundibugyo for work and had been working as a barmaid at a bar there.

The Ngamba Sub-County chairperson Siriwayo Baluku said the bar owner has been apprehended by the authorities together with his employees.

These are in police custody to help provide information on the ongoing investigations into the incident. They also had a police dog brought to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Her colleagues at the bar said Masika had complained of not feeling well on Wednesday. She eventually left later that evening at around 4 pm as revealed by her co-workers.

Police said they found underwear, soap, and cosmetics in the pockets of the jacket she wore. Her colleagues revealed how profoundly shocked they were her sudden death.

Aggrey Okumu, the Bundibugyo police commander revealed that they transported the body to Bundibugyo Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

In the same area last month, an unidentified assailant brutally murdered a woman in her 40s while tending to her garden.

Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
