Battered Woman In Kamuli Video Speaks Out

The Kamuli woman that Tom Galubale,19, battered in a viral video has spoken out on the cause of the incident. Naweria, the victim, explained that she had gone to fetch water at a nearby borehole.

At the time, she crossed over to go and greet her grandmother when Galubale assaulted her. Apparently, Galubale assaulted her, accusing her of ‘making his father beat him.

According to Naweria, Galubale asked if she had followed him there for his dad to confirm that she had been soliciting girls for him.

Sandra Namudiba is the Uganda Women Network (UWONET) Kamuli branch manager. She immediately went to court to report the case the instant she saw the video.

She said she had been keen on domestic violence and child abuse ahead of the 16 days of women activism.

The Busoga North Police spokesperson, Mr. Michael Kasadha told reporters that the said incident took place on Friday last week.

Further, he revealed that on Tuesday this week, Galubale got arraigned before court and remanded to Kamuli prison.

‘’The woman he assaulted is his neighbor and not his wife as it is being suggested on social media. While the one-and-a-half-year-old child belongs to the woman. He was taken to court today (Tuesday) and remanded,’’ Mr. Kasadha said.

According to him, police is yet to establish what triggered the fight. However, whatever the cause, Mr. Kasadha said Galubale had no business beating the neighbor, the child, or anyone.
