Dyke was accused of paying for sexually explicit photos and engaging in other inappropriate behavior with the boy.
The allegations came to light after the boy’s mother discovered the explicit messages on her son’s phone.
After the story was made public, Dyke reportedly contacted the boy’s mother and offered to pay her money to drop the charges. He also allegedly contacted the police and the BBC to try to stop the investigation.
However, the investigation continued, and Dyke was eventually arrested and charged with attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
Dyke pleaded guilty to the charges on Sunday and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years and reportedly paid £35,000 for the photographs . He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and attend a sex offender treatment program.
The BBC suspended Dyke from his role as a radio host following his arrest and later terminated his employment.
This case highlights the seriousness of sexual exploitation and the importance of holding those in positions of authority accountable for their actions.
It also underscores the need for organizations to have clear policies in place to prevent and address instances of sexual misconduct.
