This raised mixed reactions among the public criticising these musicians for going there to beg and choke on taxpayers money.
However, a number of musicians came out to defend their tour in the North. They said it was not to beg but rather learn how to steer the music industry ahead.
Musician Bebe Cool also came out yesterday to reveal that it was the last day of this work shop and they had indeed learnt a lot. He said the workshop they had been attending was under the theme “Strengthening the Cultural and Creative Industry in Uganda”.
He went ahead to say that during this workshop, they dissected the performing arts industry using the SWOT, SMEAC and TEAM strategies.
The aim was to understand the position of the industry, identify the enemy and strategizing how to attack and win the war of restructuring it.
He went ahead to say the industry contributes to the national treasury. The government therefore ought to listen to them.
“The arts and creative industry contributes 3% of Uganda’s GDP and this gives us the right for government to pay full attention and organize our industry.” Bebe Cool wrote in his social media posts.
He went ahead to thank the different organizations involved to see that these meetings came to fruition. The “Katono” singer also said that the new culture and creative industry of Uganda had officially begun.
