National Unity Platform(NUP) lawyer and national treasurer Benjamin Katana has come under fire from party loyalists and diehards after he attended the thanksgiving ceremony of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon Thomas Tayebwa organized for his father, Mzee Davud Bangirana.
It should be noted that Tayebwa had a lot of dignitaries in Mitooma over the weekend. They include politicians, businessmen, and musicians among others.
President Museveni was the guest of honor while the likes of Hon Anita Among, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Dr Amama Mbabazi, Sudhir Rupharelia, Ham Kiggundu were all present.
Now, among other attendees was Benjamin Katana who is well known in the circles of the Bobi Wine-led NUP. The lawyer took to social media to account for his presence at this ceremony.
Katana said that on the invitation of Mzee Bangirana, he and his wife attended this ceremony. This is because they wanted to celebrate the old man’s 80th birthday.
He is apparently an elder and icon of hard work in the community of greater Bushenyi. However, as soon as he made the social media post, NUP’s loyalists attacked him with all kinds of accusations.
They labeled him a traitor and snake who should keep a distance from their party and the president going forth.
He then had to explain the situation to calm it down. Katana said that he has known Bangirana all his life and even went to school with some of his children.
“I have noted the deliberate attempt by some actors to insinuate political undertones around my attendance of the said mass, which is unfortunate and misleading. I have known Mzee Daudi and his family since my childhood, having grown up with and gone to school with some of his children. Therefore my attendance of the said mass had absolutely nothing to do with politics.”
