Biden Condemns Supreme Court Ruling, Decries Erosion Of Rule Of Law

In a significant blow to the rule of law, President Joe Biden has strongly condemned a recent Supreme Court ruling that grants partial immunity to former President Donald Trump from criminal prosecution.

Describing the judgement as a “dangerous precedent,” Biden expressed his deep concern over the erosion of the fundamental principle of equality before the law and the potential consequences for American society.

President Biden, in a televised statement late on Monday, emphasized the founding principle of equality in America, asserting that no individual, not even the president, is above the law.

He expressed his disappointment that the court’s decision seemingly removes limitations on a president’s actions, endangering accountability and the pursuit of justice.

Trump claims victory

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a “big win” for democracy. Trump’s legal team is seeking to overturn his conviction in New York, utilizing the Supreme Court’s opinion to support their effort.

However, President Biden expressed his concern over the far-reaching implications of the ruling, highlighting the potential threat to democracy in America.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday establishes that a president enjoys immunity for “official acts” but not for “unofficial acts.” Consequently, the case against Trump, accusing him of attempting to subvert the 2020 election results in favor of Biden, faces further delays as a trial judge must now determine which actions were carried out in his capacity as president.

This determination process is likely to extend over several months, making it highly unlikely that any trial will commence before the upcoming presidential election in November.
