US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Tuesday to demonstrate unwavering American support for Ukraine amidst intensifying Russian attacks.
The visit comes shortly after Congress approved a long-awaited foreign assistance package, allocating $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. Blinken’s visit serves to underscore the Biden administration’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense and long-term security.
Since the approval of the aid package, the Biden administration has already announced $1.4 billion in short-term military assistance, with an additional $6 billion pledged for longer-term support.
