He however chickened out from attending the burial ceremony of Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
Kabanda added that Bobi Wine is going to commiserate with the late’s family today 9th April 2022. The NRM MP said that the late Hon Jacob Oulanyah taught Ugandans the spirit of Ubuntu (togetherness).
Kabanda also said that, unlike NUP supporters, they don’t embarrass fellow mourners. Therefore Kyagulanyi is highly welcome.
“I am aware Hon Kyagulanyi was in Gulu yesterday but feared to attend the burial in Omoro. He plans to commiserate with the family today. The late taught us the spirit of Ubuntu. We don’t heckle or embarrass fellow mourners irrespective of our differences. We welcome him to Omoro,” Kabanda said.
There was a lot of talk about NUP and its affiliates attending this burial ceremony. The party had faced backlash from sections of the public, especially from the North over the way they treated Hon Oulanyah’s sickness.
Some supporters identifying as NUP went ahead to protest in Seattle where the late was undergoing treatment. This was criticized a lot by the NRM, its affiliates, and those close to the late Speaker.
Bobi Wine and some of the top officials came out to endorse these protests. They said that the protest wasn’t about Oulanyah but the decayed health system back in Uganda.
These didn’t stop here but criticized the high budget of Oulanyah’s funeral. There were fears that if these graced the ceremony, chaos and dangerous clashes would break out.
