This comes after Ssemujju gathered only 15 votes in the recently concluded speaker of parliament election. The election was won by NRM’s Jacob Oulanyah followed by independent Rebecca Kadaga and Ssemujju in a distant third.
This was a shock basing on the fact that the opposition parties have more than 100 MP’s in parliament combined. These were expected to at least all unanimously vote for Ssemujju.
Ibrahim Ssemujju while speaking on the loss blamed Bobi Wine and his NUP party for failing to rally behind him.
The outspoken legislator asserted that he requested to meet Bobi wine but he defied and didn’t respond back to him. The former presidential candidate instead convened a NUP meeting and told his MPs to vote for Kadaga.
“I wrote to everyone
@NUP_Ug
MP, I even wrote to the NUP President
@HEBobiwine
and asked to meet him at his convenience but he did not. Instead, he convened a meeting of NUP members on Sunday and told them to vote
@RebeccaKadagaUG
.” – Hon.
@SsemujjuNganda”. Semujju said.
What surprised the nation the more was that even all FDC MPs did not vote for Ssemujju. This is because the party has more MPs than those that voted for Ssemujju in the 11th parliament.
This is another bickering scenario among opposition parties who have failed to have a unanimous voice against the government.
