Thousands gathered at Kadugala Village in Masaka District to bid a heartfelt farewell to Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the esteemed Member of Parliament for Kawempe North Constituency. The somber occasion saw an emotional tribute delivered by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the President of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

In a moving eulogy, Bobi Wine lauded Ssegirinya as a self-made man who transcended humble beginnings to achieve national acclaim.

Describing him as a man of exceptional determination, Bobi Wine emphasized Ssegirinya’s journey from obscurity to becoming a prominent figure in Kampala, Buganda, and beyond.

Bobi Wine reflected on Ssegirinya’s humility and unwavering commitment to the common person, underscoring his profound understanding of the everyday struggles faced by the boda boda riders, market women, and ordinary citizens.

The bond between Bobi Wine and Ssegirinya, forged during the 2017 campaign for Kyadondo East MP, was rooted in shared experiences and values.

Both rising from humble beginnings, they shared a deep commitment to uplifting the lives of ordinary Ugandans, transcending past challenges to create a better future for their communities.

Ssegirinya’s pivotal role in the NUP’s People Power Movement, especially during the 2020 primaries, showcased his unwavering dedication to the people’s cause.

Despite facing opposition from established politicians, Ssegirinya’s popularity among the people was undeniable, reflecting a true embodiment of grassroots support and trust.

Amidst the poignant moments of remembrance, Bobi Wine shared Ssegirinya’s poignant final wish to speak at his funeral for five hours, symbolizing a profound trust and friendship between the two leaders.

Although unable to fulfill this request, Bobi Wine paid heartfelt tribute to his late friend’s unwavering trust and belief in his leadership.

As the burial of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya marked the end of an era, Bobi Wine called for unity and a continued commitment to the ideals and values that Ssegirinya embodied.

His legacy of humility, determination, and service to the people serves as a guiding light for all who strive to make a lasting impact on society.
