The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has revealed where he got the inspiration to join active politics.
Mr. Wine said that the incident happened at Club Silk when a Police Officer slapped him while he was seated in his escalade.
The then-budding singer said that he doesn’t know why he was slapped. At this point, he was also actively boxing and was a real gangster.
He decided to get out of the car and teach this officer a lifetime lesson. However, no sooner had he gotten out of the car than a pistol was placed on his forehead and he calmed himself down.
More slaps rained on him and he couldn’t fight back but rather asked why he was being assaulted.
This officer bluntly asked him why he was showing off. He reminded him that this country has its owners and at this point, one wasn’t amused with what the self-styled gladiator was doing.
The singer/politician was only helped by the club bouncers. They pleaded on his behalf saying that he didn’t know the officer’s rank. Coldly, he went back into his car as he had been instructed by the officer and he drove off.
The aftermath of the assault;
In the car, he was with Nubian Li and none of them said a word to another. There was total silence as they headed back to Kamwokya.
Bobi Wine then started recalling all the injustices that other people had gone through in the past. At this point he was more angry with himself. He told himself to keep quiet because he had never raised a voice when the same things happened to others.
From then on, he started being politically active. Some of his friends by then included the likes of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Gen Salim Saleh but they all cut ties with him. He even turned down the chance to join the Tubonga Nawe Project.
