Bomb Discovered In Sembabule Safely Detonated

The police counter-terrorism unit and bomb squad personnel on Wednesday rushed to Nakasagazi village in Sembabule to retrieve a bomb discovered in a forest.

Apparently, children found the bomb as they were fetching firewood from a nearby forest. While there, they discovered an old rusty projectile that somebody had abandoned for some time.

The youngsters took the metal to a butcher who chose to use it as a weighing stone to weigh beef.

However, he completely had zero knowledge about what the projectile could be or the magnitude of the threat it posed.

Fortunately, one of the keen residents saw it and informed the local authorities in time for immediate action.

The local authorities then immediately informed the police and the army to take control of the situation. The LC1 Chairperson, Ben Lubega, said they had no idea such a deadly weapon existed in their community.

Confirmation came when the bomb squad from Kampala cordoned off the area, retrieved the projectile, and later detonated it from a safer area.

Authorities have as a result warned community members to stay vigilant and report any suspicious objects to the authorities for safety.

The development comes at a time when Uganda is facing terror threats after two separate bombs exploded at a pork joint and on a bus. The two explosions claimed the lives of two people while injuring many others.
