These cells usually form a tumor that can often be seen on an x-ray or felt as a lump. The tumoris malignant(cancer) if the cells can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body.

According to the new vision newspaper published on 23th October 2017, it stated that breast cancer is more aggressive in men than women

But Why?

There is a misconception that breast cancer affects only women. Medical experts argue that breast cancer is a disease of breast tissue, thus affecting both men and women .

Dr. Victoria Walusansa, an oncologist working with UCI, says although this disease is rare in men it does occur in a few.

World wide, only 1% of the cases of this disease occur in males

According to standard age incidence rate data provided by Kampala Cancer register 2014, about two in every 100,000 men in Uganda suffer this disease.

“The distressing issue is that when this disease occurs in men it is very aggressive compared to female presentation and often it tends to present in late stages,” Dr. Walusansa explains.

He adds that the fact that the male breast is small, the tumoris malignant spreads faster and more aggressively than in women. What is worse is that, men rarely get their breasts screened.
