The Mengo establishment raised alarm on Tuesday regarding a circulating map of Uganda that conspicuously excludes the Buganda Kingdom.
This omission was deemed a deliberate distortion of history, as expressed by Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the kingdom’s minister for communication.
Kitooke highlighted that this incident is not an isolated case. In 2018, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics also released a map that failed to acknowledge Buganda Kingdom, sparking similar concerns.
During his 63rd birthday celebrations in 2018, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the king of Buganda, strongly denounced this omission.
Upholding integrity amidst exclusion
The kingdom’s leadership, led by Kazibwe, reiterated their stance against such actions, citing a recent discovery of yet another map circulating on social media that disregards Buganda while recognizing other kingdoms.
Kazibwe emphasized that these deliberate exclusions aim to divert Buganda from its core objectives.
In response to these attempts to erase Buganda’s presence, Kazibwe assured, “Buganda is a rock — those who have attempted to tamper with it in the past have faced unexplainable consequences.” The kingdom’s leadership called for unity among its subjects to uphold Buganda’s historical significance and cultural identity against external undermining forces.
