Usually putting up such structures comes with a lot of strains especially financially. Some people even end up taking loans to put up a house which at times is to please the masses who keep commenting about people from towns who live in ram-shackled houses.
To Kaggwa Njala, the idea is overrated. He cited a friend of his who put up a gigantic mansion in Lyantonde. They even went for a housewarming party in 2019.
However, this friend of his confessed to him that he’s slept in it twice ever since he completed it. Therefore, this means that there are millions of shillings lying idle there.
“Building in the village is overrated. A friend, acting on family pressure, built a mansion in Lyantonde. We house-warmed it in 2019 around December. He says he’s only slept in it twice on Xmas holiday. More than shs300m is lying idle,” said the journalist.
He believes this money could have been used to do something more productive. However, it’s always embarrassing in times of problems like death to go to someone’s ancestral home and find dilapidated structures.
Numerous scenarios have happened over time leaving people ashamed. When rich people unexpectedly die or lose someone and they go to their ancestral homes, it’s always a shock at what is found there. That’s why most people nowadays put up such homes to avoid shame.
