Saka was on the score sheet netting the Gunners second through a well-drilled free kick. Besides, the Englishman captained his boyhood club to the game as he has done in a couple of games without captain, Martin Odegaard who is out injured.
Kai Havertz scored the Gunners’ first after he leaped onto Leandro Trossard’s cross and headed the ball past PSG goalkeeper, Gigi Donnarumma.
Mikel Arteta’s side could have scored more as two clear-cut chances fell to Gabriel Martinelli but he was denied twice by the Italian goalie.
According to Bukayo Saka, he told his teammates that they had to make a big statement. This is because they haven’t been performing well against big European teams but this time they did. And he believes this trend has to continue against other teams in the competition.
“When I was speaking with the boys in the team talk before the game, I told them: we have to make a big statement tonight. We haven’t shown our full quality in Europe against big opponents. Tonight yes… but we need to do that also away now”.
Meanwhile, the club coach provided an injury update about Jurrien Timber. After a brilliant first-half performance, the Dutch defender did not return to the fold.
Arteta said that Timber felt a small muscular problem and he had to be taken off as a precaution. Arsenal will be back in action on Saturday in the Premier League as they host Southampton.
