The Governor of California, Gavin Newsom looked back at the state’s journey through the pandemic on Tuesday. He did this through a speech he delivered at Dodger Stadium. Instead of sports fans, in the stands, there were nurses in PPE safety gear.
Newsom said it is very important for them to consider where they are compared to where they have come from.
‘’COVID was no one’s fault, but quickly became everyone’s burden. The positivity rate is down from 14% to just 2.2% today,’’ he said.
Moving on, Newsom emphasized that every Californian will have access to the vaccine. Those most vulnerable or with the highest risk of exposure will be the top priority for the vaccine. He stressed the fact that the vaccine will save the lives of Californians.
The governor also commended the parents and grocery store workers for their quiet bravery that shined a light in the dark times. He praised them saying, ‘’not every hero wears scrubs’’.
The governor further explained that California relied much on science to fight the pandemic. It even became the first state to issue a stay-at-home order and launch mass vaccination sites. Today, California has the most robust vaccination program in the country.
He emphasized a sense of hopefulness and encouraged everyone to stay determined. ‘’We are bent, but not broken,’’ he said.
