The aviation entrepreneur says delays by Uganda government in actualizing the policy is hindering youth from accessing aviation job creation opportunities.
“I appeal to government to immediately put Public Private Partnership policy to action. As private sector player in the aviation industry we need to broaden our area of cooperation and partnership to boost skills training of our youth to benefit from hospitality and aviation industry job opportunities in the whole of Africa,”Mukula said.
He said although covid hit the aviation industry, airlines industry has picked up and opportunities for youth to work in the industry has more than increased.
Presiding over Uganda Aviation Academy 9th graduation on Friday at Protea Hotel, Captain Mike Mukula said soon they will sign memorandum of understanding with Utaali hospitality Institute to broaden their training capacity for students to benefit from regional initiatives like East Africa integration.
“We intend to partner with Kenyas Utaali Hospitality Institute to ensure that our students become highly professional to take over hospitality and aviation industry jobs in Africa. Already our former students are working as pilots, cabin crew staff, aviation customer managers in various aviation industry, “Mukula stressed.
Mukula said Aviation industry is a growing industry in Africa with possibility of increased Intra Africa passenger and cargo travel expected to double in the continent in future.
Captain Francis Babu Board Chairman Uganda Aviation Academy said although airline Industry was hit because of covid it has started picking up again hence opportunities for employment for the youth.
” Qatar Airways is asking for flight crew staff and with Uganda airline expansion drive our students will be absorbed.
We are also proud to be represented by our former students in different aviation companies like Uganda airlines, kush Air, Kenya Airlines, Air Rwanda, Air Tanzania, Emirates, Qatar, Air India, Entebbe handling company, Das handling company, ” he said.
Esther Yapkoreny, Uganda Aviation Academy General Manager said the academy will soon diversify into new courses like hospitality and catering courses to enhance students various skills to fit in ever competitive job market.
She urged students to join Uganda Aviation Academy alumni association for effective job recommendation and further career guidance support.
“Please do not disconnect your self from us, we are here to support you even after your graduation. Join Uganda Aviation Academy alumni association to benefit from career support like recommendations and job placements, “Yapkoreny said.
Starred In 2014, with just intake of 48 students today the school has grown with student community of 120 strong with the different nationalities in the region of East Africa being represented.
