Chilling Rampage: Tragedy Strikes Mityana District

Police in Mityana District have reported a harrowing incident, where a suspect with a suspected mental illness allegedly went on a violent spree, leaving one person dead and another injured.

The suspect, identified as James Agongu, a resident of Kasambya Village, Bujayo Parish, Kalangalo Sub-County, is accused of knocking on doors while wielding a panga (a type of machete) in the early hours of Monday morning, around 4:00 a.m.

A tragic encounter 

Tragedy struck when Sylvester Luhimbazi, a 45-year-old resident, stepped out to investigate the commotion. Luhimbazi was fatally attacked, as confirmed by the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala.

Another resident, Steven Byakatonda, 48, was also injured in the incident but was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect has a mental illness,” Kawala stated, adding that Agongu has been arrested and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Police in Mityana district have confirmed that Luhimbazi’s body was examined before being handed over to his family for burial, as they continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss of life.
