Gospel musician Exodus has blamed churches in Uganda for contributing to people’s poverty and depression. The singer while appearing on a local TV station said that churches should be the sole places to provide hope to the masses.
However, most of these church leaders are now greedy.
The singer said that he used to think when Jesus drove people out of the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem by flogging them, it was the common masses. However, it’s now that he gets to understand it was rather the church leaders.
Additionally, the Igwe singer said that the same things that happened are the same things occurring now. According to the singer, these church leaders are more focused on money and all they talk about is money.
Instead of giving the people hope, they mislead them and more Christians are leading a fake lifestyle. He went ahead to say that the church has to revise what it teaches to the people because it’s the only way to give people hope.
“The church has gone off topic and instead of giving people hope, it’s taking it away. I used to think that when Jesus chased people from the Lord’s temple that had turned it into a marketplace, he referred to the common people. It’s now that I get to understand that it was rather the church leaders. And the same things are happening now. Most church leaders are more concerned about taking money from the masses. It’s all the talk about and unless they change their doctrines, Christians will continue living a fake life,” said the singer.
Furthermore, Exodus who has been battling depression in the past couple of years also shed light on this topic. He said that many families are undergoing depression due to poverty. This is one of the areas the church has failed miserably in assisting the people.
