Additionally, he said that an election will never be a means to remove Museveni from power. They, therefore, have to devise other means if they really want to do the seemingly impossible for now.
“I want to tell the people of Uganda that even if all opposition parties within East & Southern Africa unite, they cannot oust Gen M7 out of power. You cannot milk 100 rabbits and expect to get a 40 litre jerrycan of milk. An election can never be an avenue to remove Gen.M7,” he said.
Apparently, most of the opposition political leaders know this but they have nonetheless stuck with the method. Prior to the 2021 general elections, Besigye who had contested against Museveni four times said that elections do not work and he never participated.
A new kid on the block, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu dismissed this and said that he would go ahead to participate. He got massive support but couldn’t beat Museveni and he is still crying foul play till now.
Recently, President Museveni reappointed Justice Simon Byabakama as the new electoral commission chairman. It was Byabakama at the pinnacle of the commission in the 2021 general election.
Nakaseke South MP, Hon Paulson Lutamaguzi said that anyone who participates in this election will be a fool. This is because nothing sensible will come out of it if the commission is not yet independent.
However, his party, NUP and other opposition political parties haven’t shown any means to challenge this. All signs are clear that they will participate in the 2026 general elections.
