They are set to contend with world number 2 New Zealand, England, and Malawi. Other teams in the group are Trinidad and Tobago, and Northern Ireland in a decent group.
Coach Mugerwa has a belief that the girls stand a chance to perform exceptionally in the competition. He said they will be able to do so if they can take care of all the teams ranked below them first.
After that, they can then take on the bigger teams later in the group competition.
“We need to at least win most of the games we are going to play. We need to look at some of the teams that are below us and then look at the countries that are above us. There are two countries (England and New Zealand) above us in the ranking but we can’t forget the ones below us,” he said.
Either way, Mugerwa believes Uganda faces a fair grouping in the commonwealth games. Also, with the addition of Nuba or Peace Proscovia, the team will hopefully perform to its best.
“We shall perform because the last time we played these countries we didn’t have Mary and Peace while for them they had their people there with them,” he commented.
