Rugby Cranes 7s Team eyes CWG Berth

The Rugby Cranes 7s team is looking to qualify for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games starting July 28 to August 8th.

However, in order for them to qualify for them, they have to finish the Africa Cup in the top two positions.

Kampala will host a number of countries April 23 to 24 in the Rugby Africa 7s Championship. They include Kenya, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Madagascar, Ghana, Morocco, Namibia, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.

Kenya has got a direct qualification, but the other best two teams in the tournament will qualify for the games. Team manager Michael Wandera is optimistic that his charges can make it to the games for the 54 countries that were former territories of the British Empire.

‘’I know there are stubborn countries including Tunisia, Madagascar, Zambia, Zimbabwe. However, we are focused on making it to the Games in England,’’ Wandera said.

The Rugby Cranes represented Uganda in the Melbourne 2006 games, 2010 in New Delhi. They did the same in 2014 in Glasgow, and 2018 in Gold Coast Austria.
