Construction Of Bakyenga Emeritus’ Grave Inside Cathedral Begins

The construction of the grave inside Mbarara city-based Nyamitanga Cathedral, where Archbishop Emeritus Paul Bakyenga is to be buried has kicked off.

The Nyamitanga parish priest, Rev. Fr. Richard Ssebugwawo is spearheading the construction of the grave. He is being assisted by the parish architect as well as engineers to make sure this is done well.

They dug the burial ground on the right side of the main entrance, near the alter. It is placed adjacent to the first grave of the first Bishop of Mbarara Francis-Xavier Lacoursiere of White Fathers (July 25 1934-56).

On Wednesday Morning, they held a requiem mass to honor Bakyenga inside the Nyamitanga Cathedral. The Burunga Parish priest, John Mary Vianney Kanyesigye presided over this mass.

Kanyesigye, during the mass, tasked the Christian’s with reflecting on the sermons as well as conduct of the late Bakyenga. He added that the deceased always gave guidance to the priests in the Archdiocese of Mbarara.

Kanyesigye is one of the priests that the late ordained on July 19, 2014.

A number of notables attended the mass on Wednesday morning. Some of these included Mbarara City Woman MP Rita Atukwasa Bwahika and deputy chairperson of the NRM electoral commission, John Arimpa Kigyagi.

The burial preparations begun as they expect the body of the deceased to arrive at Nyamitanga on Friday evening. This is accordance with a program released by the Mbarara Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha.
