Construction Of The Masindi Hospital Worth Shs50b Commences

The government has pointed its guns towards the reconstruction of Masindi Hospital. This is according to Eng. George Otim, the commissioner health infrastructure in the Ministry of Health.

Ministry of Health stakeholders held a meeting last week during which they presented the new hospital plan. Eng. George enlightened the stakeholders about the cost of reconstruction which will be shs50b.

He also noted that sh32b will be for civil works, while sh18b will be for equipment.  In attendance at the meeting were hospital management, health workers as well as district leaders.

According to Otim, the construction will be done in phases over a period of three years. Apparently, this financial year’s budget provided shs 10b for the official commencement of the project.

Also, the engineering brigade of the Uganda People’s Defense Force will undertake the project.

Aisha Nakamya, a member of the hospital management committee, said the reconstruction of the hospital will lead to improved service delivery.

To understand it, Masindi Hospital is one of Uganda’s oldest hospitals. They constructed it back in the 1920’s as a dispensary for Uganda Railways.

Currently, it is serving over 500,000 people from the nearby Nakasongola, Kiryandongo, Buliisa, Masindi and Hoima districts.
