Counsel Anthony Wameli’s Death From Cancer Is Big Loss To The Fight For Justice – Stella Nyanzi

Dr Stella Nyanzi, prolific poet, politician and feminist is saddened by the death of Anthony Wameli, the National Unity Platform (NUP) head of legal team.

Counsel Wameli was pronounced dead yesterday by the president of NUP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine.

The cause of death was revealed to be cancer that he has been battling for so many years. He was last year taken to the United States for treatment but he couldn’t make it.

“Very sad day! Just learnt of the untimely passing of our dear brother and Head of our Legal Team, comrade Wameli Anthony from the U.S. where he’s been admitted for treatment. Details will be provided in due course. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Bobi Wine posted.

Although Stella Nyanzi is not a big fan of National Unity Platform (NUP), she looks to have had a good personal relationship with Wameli.

Through her social media platforms, she said Counsel Wameli helped her in her court issues here in Uganda. His death, therefore, is a big loss to the fight for justice.

“Counsel Wameli Anthony gave me legal aid and pro bono representation in Uganda’s court. His death from cancer is a big loss to the fight for justice,” Stella Nyanzi said

It should be noted that Counsel Wameli was one of the top lawyers in Bobi Wine’s case against President Museveni in the concluded 2021 general elections.
