Mp David Kabanda Reveals Museveni Turned Down VP Jessica Alupo’s Shock Suggestion For Soroti East By-election

Kasambya County member of Parliament, Hon. David Kabanda, has revealed that President Museveni turned down a shock suggestion by Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo.

According to Kabanda, while in Ntungamo at one of Museveni’s numerous homes last month, Alupo suggested that the NRM shouldn’t front a candidate in the Soroti East By-election.

This was to be in favor of FDC’s Moses Attan. Museveni however rejected this. The NRM eventually won the election although this win has been dubbed dubious and contested by many.

“On June 28th, 2022 in a meeting at President Museveni’s home in Ntungamo, HE Jesica Alupo advised that NRM shouldn’t front a candidate in the Soroti By-election in favour of FDC’s Moses Attan. This was rejected by the President,” revealed Kabanda.

This was absolutely one of the weirdest suggestions in the face of President Museveni. There is absolutely no way he would let an opposition candidate field another MP in the house.

He even had to personally go out to Soroti and campaign for Herbert Ariko, the party flagbearer. This also saw many ministers employed to see that Ariko jets into Parliament.

The Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo before ‘thumping’ lord mayor Erias Lukwago on the NBS Frontline had reiterated that the NRM is bent on making sure that they win all by-elections.

He added that they just don’t want to win but would actually like to win by 100%. That’s a statement that many can’t contest because if they want to, they can actually win each election by that percentage.

Meanwhile, a number of FDC campaign agents that were arrested on the election day have been released on bail.

These include the Kampala Deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura. The FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi. 21 others are still behind bars.
