The search is on for Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris, a well-known city socialite implicated in an international job scam that has left numerous Ugandans devastated after being defrauded of millions of shillings.
Don Chris, recognized for his extravagant lifestyle and frequent support of music events, is the owner of Skypins Tours and Travel, a company currently under intense scrutiny for alleged fraudulent activities.
Skypins Tours and Travel extensively advertised on various media platforms, offering enticing job opportunities in countries such as Canada, the UK, Qatar, Dubai, and Luxembourg.
The allure of high-paying jobs attracted a large number of Ugandans to Skypins’ offices in Haruna Mall, Ntinda, with hopes of securing a promising future abroad. However, it soon became apparent that the promised jobs were non-existent.
Unveiling the extent of financial deception
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango disclosed that at least 85 individuals have come forward to report being victims of the scam, with each person having paid sums ranging from Shs3.5 million to Shs10 million, resulting in an estimated total loss of Shs500 million.
Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, has taken notice of the scandal and has been presented with petitions from multiple victims.
Responding promptly, the Minister directed the Kampala Metropolitan CID Commander to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
In the midst of escalating accusations, Don Chris has taken to social media to acknowledge the allegations against him, boldly asserting that he has no intention of compensating those affected by the purported scam.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Don Chris remains unyielding, refuting any responsibility for the financial hardships faced by his clients and asserting that he cannot be apprehended, revealing that he has already departed the country.
