Donald Trump Refuses Presidential Debate ‘Rematch’ With Harris

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, firmly stated that there will be no repeat of the presidential debate with his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. He cited the commencement of early voting as a reason, asserting that there was no longer any need for further debate.

Harris had proposed a second debate to be hosted by CNN on October 23, while Fox News also extended an offer to host a final encounter before the November 5 election.

Trump, the former Republican president, rejected the idea of a second presidential debate with Kamala Harris following an offer from Fox News to hold a candidate showdown before the upcoming election on November 5.

Despite being engaged in a closely contested White House battle, the two candidates had only faced off once in September and are unlikely to meet again before the election.

In an emphatic statement on his Truth Social media platform, Donald Trump declared, “It is very late in the process, (early) voting has already begun — there will be no rematch!” Dismissing the possibility of a follow-up debate in Philadelphia, Trump emphasized that Harris had previously stated she would not deviate from Joe Biden’s positions, leaving no room for further debate.

Unmet challenges

Harris had previously issued a challenge for a debate hosted by CNN on October 23, a proposition that Trump declined.

Furthermore, Donald Trump mentioned that Harris had withdrawn from a previous debate opportunity offered by Fox, although the Harris campaign had not publicly accepted the offer.

While the candidates did engage in a debate on ABC News on September 10, a second debate never materialized despite initial interest from Harris.

Fox News made a final attempt to facilitate a debate between Harris and Trump by sending letters to both campaigns, suggesting potential dates of October 24 or October 27.

Jay Wallace, president of Fox News Media, highlighted that this debate would serve as an opportunity for each candidate to present their concluding arguments.
