While in a meeting with the ministry officials, Hilderman questioned the role of the Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC) which is the ministry’s arm of handling musicians issues.
The Mazongoto singer wondered how this arm handles its services since it has never invited him for any meeting.
“I wonder what the role of UNCC is since it has never invited me yet am Dr Hilderman. I wonder then what happens to a Hilderman in Kaabong.” The singer/politician questioned.
He also talked about the issue of copyright which has hampered the music industry for long. The ministry however told him that they are still designing a legal framework which they want to send to the cabinet.
This will help to commercialize the industry but in a scientific and digital way to match the current trend.
They further told him that in one month, they shall be giving him and all artistes feedback.
The Ministry also wondered how artistes could be placed on the list of vulnerable people. It was reported by these officials that if artistes were getting all their royalties, they would have been able to pass through the shocks and turbulences of the pandemic.
While talking to Spark TV, Dr Hilderman said he was glad the government is doing something now.
“I was given a month so I’m waiting to get an answer from them but I’m glad something is being done. Artistes are like prophets and valuables that the nation should protect at all costs …” Hilderman said.
