Bev Priestman the head coach of the Canadian national Women’s Soccer Team has been suspended over a drone spying scandal. It’s reported that Priestman sent a drone to spy over the training tactics of the New Zealand team who are their opponents.
The Canadian Olympic Committee has now revealed that her assistant Andy Spence will now lead the team for the remainder of the games taking place in Paris, France.
It should be noted that this Drone Spying Scandal put the North American country under the global spectrum when it first broke out a few days ago.
“Over the past 24 hours, additional information has come to our attention regarding previous drone use against opponents. This predates the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” Canada Soccer CEO & General Secretary Kevin Blue said in an emailed statement.
“In light of these new revelations, Canada Soccer has made the decision to suspend Women’s National Team Head Coach, Bev Priestman for the remainder of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, This is until the completion of our recently announced independent external review.”
It should be noted that the two nations locked horns in the opener with Canada winning the game 2-1. However, Priestman was not on the bench since the scandal had already made headlines.
She came out and apologized to the New Zealand team. She also said that this does not represent the values she stands for.
“This does not represent the values that our team stands for. I am ultimately responsible for the conduct in our program.”
Meanwhile, the 2024 Paris Olympics are officially getting opened today 26th July 2024.
