Luckily, the authority added that the South Western and Central parts of Uganda will receive rainfall occasionally.
The news comes at a time when many parts of the country are experiencing high temperatures, the first few days of the new year. Therefore the nation has been warned to brace for hotter weather.
Originally, the months of December-February experienced a dry spell in major parts on Uganda. These were mainly characterized by warmer day-time temperature values.
However, though, weather patterns have transformed over time and have become unpredictable. This has seen some of these very months receiving rains that are beyond normal. The released weather report revealed some of the factors that might bring about rainfall in the anticipated dry season.
Apparently, the current negative phase of El Nino Southern Oscillation over the Central Pacific Ocean is expected to return to its neutral condition by February.
Additionally, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is expected to maintain its neutral nature, among other factors.
The review of September-December 2022 said the months received abnormal rains. The Gulu station recorded the highest amount of rainfall at a total of 352.6mm.
Buginyanya in Bulambuli district followed Gulu with 329.8mm. Kamenyamigo in Lwengo district came in third with 265.2mm. That means that Gulu and Buginyanya stations received rains on an average of 23 days a month in terms of temporal rainfall distribution.
The Entebbe station in Wakiso district and Kotido district received the least amount of rainfall with 45.7mm and 48.5mm respectively.
