Egypt has called on Africa Cup of Nations Organizers to delay this weekend’s final against Senegal. They requested for the delay to get more time to prepare after overcoming hosts Cameroon on penalties in Thursday’s semi-final.
‘’I want to state to call all CAF authorities that Senegal has one extra day to train therefore maybe we should play the final on Monday,’’ Egypt’s assistant coach suggested.
He made the suggestion while speaking after coach Carlos Queiroz got a red card during the semi-final.
Egypt won the game in penalty shootouts after a goalless 120 minutes in Yaoundé, while Senegal overcame Burkina Faso in a 3-1 win.
The Egyptians had already needed extra time and penalties to get the better of Ivory Coast in the last 16. They then beat Morocco 2-1 in extra time in the quarter-finals.
In similar news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, AFCON debutants had progressed to the quarter-finals after a 1-0 spirited win over Guinea at the Kouekong Stadium. The match happened on Monday evening.
Musa Barrow scored the all-important goal for the side coached by Tom Sainrfiet. The forward at Italian side Bologna struck in the 71st minute, latching onto Yusupha Bobb’s through ball.
