Nigerians Blame Their Team’s AFCON Exit On President Buhari

Nigerians have come out to express their disappointment in the national team after their exit from the ongoing 2021 Cameroon AFCON. Some even took it a notch higher by blaming the exit on President Mohammed Buhari who is not even in Cameroon.

After putting on an impressive performance in the group stages winning 3 out of 3, the Super Eagles had been touted as one of the favorites to win the tournament.

They however fell 1-0 to Tunisia who finished third in their group.

The North Africans pipped the West Africans courtesy of a Youssef Msakini 47th-minute strike.

Nigeria’s Everton winger Alex Iwobi got a red card in the 66th minute. This gave the Super Eagles a mountain to climb. Unfortunately they couldn’t climb it.

They then decided to vent their frustration on Twitter with some citing the President’s phone call before the game as the reason for this defeat.

“NEVER CALL President BUHARI before a game. I’m not a soccer fan. Sorry sha,” on Twitter user said alongside laughing emojis.

“I blame Buhari abeg He congratulated Anthony Joshua, dem beat am, rule Nigeria, he spoil am, greeted the super eagles, dem beat us Wetin President Muhammadu Buhari cannot affect with his bad luck does not exist,” another user insinuated that the same consequences befell English boxer Anthony Joshua after talking to Buhari before his fight.

“When you allowed Mr Buhari to do VC with the boys… That was when you ought to have started packing your bags… Hope you remember AJ and the last time Bubu spoke to the team in the last AFCON, They crashed out to third,” another said.

“Next time learn to separate politics from games. You have succeeded in cutting short the joy of millions of NIGERIANS, because of one man’s call.

That call wasn’t necessary, we know what their personality is causing Nigeria. I’m angry at you guys..”

Other fans had specific players to blame for this loss such as the goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
