However, Musk has dismissed any allegations of having an affair with Nicole Shanahan, Sergey Brin’s wife. He even replied to a link to the story posted on Twitter calling it ‘total bs’.
Furthermore, Musk said he and Brin remain friends and we’re even at a party the previous night.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal said that Mr Musk was engaged in a brief affair late last year with Ms Shanahan. Following this, Mr. Brin decided to file for divorce earlier this year. This lead their friendship to a cliff according to the paper.
In his defense, Musk tweeted saying, “I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic”.
By the time the two apparently had an affair in December, Mr. Brin and his wife were not together. However, they still lived in the same house, according to sources close to them. The paper said even though they have a prenuptial agreement, Mr Brin and Ms Shanahan are currently negotiating a divorce settlement. This could be as much as $1bn (£830m).
Ms. Shanahan is a California-based attorney and founder of legal technology company ClearAccessIP and the Bia-Echo Foundation, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The Bia-Echo Foundation is a philanthropic organization that promotes “reproductive longevity & equality, criminal justice reform and a healthy & livable planet”.
This happens to be one of the many issues Elon Musk is facing. He is embroiled in a legal fight over his abandoned plan to buy Twitter for $44bn.
The platform earlier sued him after his announcement of wanting to walk away from the deal.
