The End Is Near – Lionel Messi Says About His Retirement

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has talked about his retirement from professional football revealing that the end is near. The 37-year-old made the remarks last evening at an event organized by Spanish Sports publication Marca which named him as the greatest footballer of all time. He was followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Pele.

This was such a big headline especially owing to the fact that Marca is a pro Real Madrid publication. Therefore recognizing Messi from a rival club, Barcelona as the GOAT ahead of Ronaldo left every tongue confessing especially those who have doubted the Argentine’s GOAT status for long.

Speaking about his career, the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner said that he is glad that he has won everything there is to win in his career. He said that he is glad he won the World Cup and every trophy with the club of his life, Barcelona.

Read what he had to say;

“The end is near and I’m enjoying and valuing every moment as much as possible. Argentina and Barcelona are my home. Today I am also in a place where I feel very happy, a new stage in my life”,

“What’s left for me in football? Thank God I can say that I’ve achieved every dream I had. My biggest dream was to win the World Cup. I have won everything for the club of my life in Barça. And I also won titles in PSG. I can’t ask for anything else,” he told Marca.

Additionally, Messi who recently netted a hat trick against Bolivia in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers was asked about the prospect of playing in the 2026 World Cup.

He did not rule out anything but he said that time would tell. He is taking things step by step and day by day. If he feels he is in the right body shape, he will play in it.
