His concerns were about the rural electrification agency staff who ignore district authorities in implementation of projects.
He is also concerned that rural electrification agency staff have impregnated girls most of whom are still teenagers.
This leaves the girls to suffer alone with the kids after the staff members disappear due to termination of their contracts.
He further highlighted the need for more solar projects in the district. On top of that, he urged the ministry to come up with measures to deal with vandalism of transformers and theft of their oil.
The region’s RDC, Nixion Owole raised concerns over the northern region power grid. This has a lot of contradictions on assessment, survey, and compensation.
Ruth Nankabirwa, the minister of Energy and minerals and natural resources, has been on a working tour in the region recently.
She asked leaders to join hands in fighting vandalism and corruption in ensuring excellent service delivery to the electorate.
Minister Nankabirwa also noted that for social economic transformation to be felt, electricity is key.
She said this is why they should connect it to the local person. This is one of her ministry’s goals that they must achieve.
She stated that in 2001, power connectivity was at 1%. However, currently, with reserved options like solar, thermal power she hopes by 2025 to leave it at 60% from the current 45%.
