Andrew Kaggwa, an arts journalist with Daily Monitor, has revealed that the entertainment industry has so many cases of sexual harassment that no one is reporting about. He says the people who know about this vice are quiet because they fear being sidelined.
“Unfortunately, sexual harassment is something that is known to exist in the entertainment industry but has not been documented. The people who know what is going on are afraid to be sidelined by the industry and therefore, will not speak.”
Anna Maria, an actor on the other hand has called upon women to stand against this shameful act because if they don’t, no one will.
“Sometimes women feel inferior in a situation and therefore, do not stand up for themselves in the face of sexual harassment. We need to stand up for ourselves. It is not easy to say “no” but who will fight for us?”
She however went ahead to condemn the system in the entertainment industry of almost appearing naked in front of the camera.
“There are some parts of our bodies that are meant to be private. What are you communicating when you bring them out? We want the performance, we want to see you dance but we do not want your body. Let it be for your man.”
Another renowned actor, Philip Luswata blamed the audience for being too entitled. This too according to him has thrown so many actresses into sexual harassment.
“Our audiences feel entitled. When they see a good-looking person in drama, they get bad thoughts. This kind of venom needs to stop. We are losing many actresses because of harassment.”
These actors were having a discussion under the topic “Using theatre to identify sexual harassment.”
