Omondi says that Kenyan musicians have slept. He added that they need an awakening.
He says that he’s taken this role upon himself like he’s always done in the past.
The comedian further says that he considers himself the leader of he entertainment industry in Kenya.
It however saddens him to see that the industry is dormant and nothing is being done to activate it.
“I consider myself as a leader and the President of Entertainment. As a president, it’s my duty to make sure that the Kenyan music industry is functional. But unfortunately, I feel like our industry is not functional,” Omondi said.
He further added that they are going to push a law that will see media houses play majorly Kenyan music.
“We are going to the Parliament to push for a law that will ensure that the entertainment industry’s stakeholders play 75% of Kenyan content, and I think all stakeholders need to come together,” he added.
His comments however, left some Kenyan musicians furious with his submission.
Apparently, there was a time Kenyan music dominated East Africa.
The likes of Jaguar, Nameless, Sauti Sol, Wahu, Amani amongst others were some of the big names from the country.
They however seem to have dipped a little bit.
It’s now Tanzanian, Rwandan and Ugandan music that dominates airwaves in East Africa plus Nigerian music.
