Kayihura is sued for blocking the police officer by the names of Nelson Mungasa for contesting as an MP for Tingeyi Constituency in Kapchorwa district.
Nelson said: “I tried to resign as a police officer to fully be able to participate in the polls but unfortunately, Kale alone blocked the process.”
According to Uganda’s electoral laws, it requires civil servants to leave their jobs months before nomination if they are to get involved in elective politics.
The police officer said that he then tried to appeal to the police’s parent Internal Affairs ministry that wrote to the ex IGP to re-consider his decision, but Kale didn’t abide with the request refused.
“Kale’s actions were unlawful and unconstitutional. He’s acts denied me my constitutional and core rights to play a role in the ruling of my country hence forbidding my people from Tingeyi an opportunity to serve them politically,” Nelson added.
