Evelyn Ogutu, a former journalist who worked with the Standard Media Group in Kenya, in an unfortunate development, has passed away. She died on Friday, November 11 after delivering twins through C-section.
The newborns were alive and doing well and were under close observation by doctors to determine their progress.
Many of her friends and colleagues in the industry were shocked about Ogutu’s death. They took to social media and eulogized her for her loving, caring and dedicated personality.
Some described her as a devoted friend and mentor in the industry.
“There are people who we meet and make our friends. Then there are those who become our friends before our first meeting. Then one day, you go to a WhatsApp group, and you meet the news that she will never call again,” Dennis Itumbi, a digital media strategist eulogised.
Mohamed Wehliye, an economist sent his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, saying it is such terrible news.
Having worked with different reputable organizations, Evelyn Ogutu enjoyed an illustrious career in the communication industry. She proclaimed herself a self-made communication practitioner with her passion for the career dating back to her childhood.
After finishing secondary school, Ogutu pursued a communications course at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) in Nairobi. She then joined Kenyatta University (KU) to further her studies.
Her career kicked off as a writer at the Standard Media Group, initially at the Nyeri Bureau and later in Nairobi. She spent 7 years at the organization where she built her profile in the industry.
She received credit for the inception of the Instinct and Eve Woman publications. Later on she left the newsroom and ventured into public relations where she had a thriving career.
